Hospital Acquired Infections

The majority of people in North America that work in the Healthcare Industry understand that Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) can have a substantial effect on patients, staff  or anyone else that enters through the doors of a hospital or medical center. The number of deaths resulting from HAIs can be reduced by implementing a few simple suggestions from the infographic below.

In your own facilities how prevalent do you think HAIs are? Do you have any additional thoughts or suggestions on how to reduce the number of HAIs in North America?

I agree - we definitely need more studies like this and Mike/Dick continue to guide us all with excellent editorials. Nice to move beyond partial lunar cycle durations. The one thing I wish these "boring" studies would add are pre/post treatment surveillance cultures for resistant pathogens. It is unclear to me if "shorter" duration is always associated with lower risk of MDRO acquisition. It is possible that longer or even double/triple coverage might be associated with lower resistance. I would like to see surveillance cultures included so we can eventually understand the epidemiology of resistance and move beyond the dogma of shorter always equals better or "narrow" is always better than broad-spectrum. And maybe the dogma is correct, I just want data to prove it. However, I do agree that reducing exposure does lead to lower CDI risk, which is excellent. - See more at: http://haicontroversies.blogspot.in/2015/06/this-study-is-boring-and-we-need-more.html#comment-form

It is a matter of great concern that every year in United States almost 98,987 people die from HAI. That means 271 people every day! The hospital's of United States is contaminated with different bacteria and virus which causes infection to patients. In the end the patients die. Its true that the govt. is spending a huge amount of money. But, with that the hospitals also should take some preventive measures to prevent HAI. In contrast, the infographic is quite informative and able to explain HAI perfectly. background removal service
